League School for Autism
Founded in 1966, the League School for Autism has been empowering children and young adults with Autism for more than 50 years.
LEAGUE SCHOOL CELEBRATES 60 YEARS
Yesterday, League School for Autism kicked off our 60th Anniversary celebration with cake, balloons, koozies, and a few words from CEO, Larry Sauer. The legacy of the Vetstein family, Olin family, and Dr. Carl Fenichel, founders of the League School, and its history as one of the first schools for Autism in MA, were shared with staff.
Did you know? After incorporating in 1966, League School opened its first classroom in the basement of Peabody School in Newton, then moved up the hill to the Old Richardson House a year later. In 1973, the school moved to the Lindemann Mental Health Center in Boston, and then to the former Carr School in Newtonville in 1981. Finally in 1999, the property at 300 Boston Providence Turnpike was purchased and a new school building was constructed. A vocational Center and third floor administrative offices were added in 2015, then onsite residential buildings were added in 2017 and 2019.
Today, League School for Autism continues looks ahead to the future and endeavors next to create a state of the art Career Learning Center (CLC) on property adjacent to the school. Our 60 years of empowering students with autism stands on the shoulders of our school's founders, leaders, staff, and supporters. We hope that this rich history of impact and excellence will provide a catalyst of support for our CLC vision, helping transition students with autism into meaningful work, careers, and opportunities for the future.
